JPG to PNG Conversion FAQ

Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
Converting to PNG prevents any further quality loss โ€” the image won't degrade if re-saved or edited. However, it cannot restore detail already lost during the original JPEG compression. The visual quality stays the same or better going forward.
Why is the PNG file larger than the original JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression, which preserves every pixel exactly. JPEG achieves smaller files by discarding subtle image details. The larger PNG file size is the tradeoff for perfect quality preservation and no further degradation.
Can I make the background transparent?
Yes. You can specify a background color to remove (e.g., white or any solid color), and the converter will replace matching pixels with transparency in the PNG output. This works best with clean, solid-color backgrounds.
What color depth should I choose?
24-bit truecolor is standard for photographs (16.7 million colors). 32-bit adds a transparency alpha channel. 8-bit palette (256 colors) produces much smaller files and works well for simple graphics, icons, and charts.
Can I convert multiple JPGs to PNG at once?
Yes. Upload a batch of JPG files and they'll all be converted to PNG with the same settings. Download them individually or as a ZIP archive.
